It all started when Micha Huber was looking for a way to combine the advantages of a conventional pivoting arm and a tangential linear arm. The solution method is based on the well-known geometry tool from elementary school for constructing a tangent: Thales' circle. After much thinking and calculations, a three-dimensional mechanical solution was created that meets all the requirements of a modern sensor system.
The long-time dream of geometrically correct tracking with low-friction pivot bearings became a reality.
This design was patented on May 8, 2004. The idea is based on Thales' circle. This entirely new solution brings the following advantages: Practically zero error in the stylus angle in the groove of the record. Minimal friction due to miniature ball bearings (no linear bearings). Short arm with minimal resonance. Symmetrical inertia in the stylus axis due to the minimization of the offset angle towards the center. Currently, Thales Audio manufactures the models TTT-compact II, TTT-Slim II, Simplicity II, Easy, and Statement.
